Your floors take a lot of abuse every day especially in the foyer, kitchen and bathrooms where the most dirt is accumulated. Yet we still want them to look beautiful and last forever. In order to decide on which floor to use, you need to know what's available to you and what you are looking for in a floor. There are many choices including hardwoods, softwoods, marble, stone, carpet, tiles and laminates. Each has it's own advantages and disadvantages.

At G&C General Builder Contractors, we will help to advise you on the proper floor for your needs. First, consider how the material will fit in your design. Second, consider how much wear and tear this material can take and how much traffic the area will take. Third, decide whether or not it will fit within your budget.

Your flooring must fit in with the overall design of the rest of the room whether it's the kitchen, bathroom, or other room in the house.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each type of flooring and you must be sure the floor can withstand the harsh conditions of it's daily abuse.

Ceramic tile is very durable and can resist stains and water. There are many different designs to choose from. But they can be slippery when wet and dirt can accumulate in the grout between the tiles. Those are some things to consider when using tile.

Hardwood floors last a long time and they resist wear. They can be easily cleaned and can be refinished when needed. The downside is they can also be vulnerable to moisture and can get scratched or dented easily. They may also darken with age depending on which wood is used.

Laminate flooring is very durable and can be installed over an existing floor and there are many designs to choose from. However if it becomes damaged it is difficult to repair.

Carpeting is durable, easy to install and easy to maintain. Some things to consider when installing carpeting are that it can stain and no matter how much you vacuum, there will always be some dirt and dust deep down in it. Mold can grow more easily in carpeting too.

Stone floors such as marble or granite are beautiful and extremely durable. And they are easy to maintain. The only problem is, they can be expensive and a strong sub floor is needed to support them. Some stones can stain more easily than others.

At G&C General Builder Contractors, we employ skilled craftsmen to install the floor that's just right for you.
